3 Things We Can Take Away from War Room (the Movie)

When War Room came out I was a bit confused about the title. The previews surely didn’t look like a typical war movie (and I am big fan of them) and rightfully so (it looked more like the proverbial chick flick) because it is a different type of war altogether.  Admittedly I was hesitant but a group of men – yeah that’s right men – decided we would go see it and wow, were we glad we did.

This site isn’t much about recommending movies but I have to tell you this one is worth it.  It has nothing to do with where you are in your relationship it is a great movie because it will have you connecting with the characters,  laughing one moment, and tearing up the next.  I took my 16 year old daughter and it was one of the best father-daughter dates we have had.

There are many valuable lessons to take away and here are three that I believe are crucial to our relationships – no matter where we are.

1.)  Pray with and for your your spouse daily –  out loud. Even if it is just a quick prayer of blessing over them or praising the Father for them being in your life; take a couple of minutes somewhere in your day and do it.  It is time well spent and you can make it up later.

2.)  Your true peace, joy, and contentedness can only truly be found in our Lord and not your spouse. The heroine in the movie (Elizabeth) makes this clear in a speech to her husband (Tony) and it is both moving and true. It goes back to Do Marriage’s theme that you cannot leverage a relationship and it remain healthy.

3.)  Grace is a powerful healer.  Our Father shows us grace – not as a stopping point – but to flow through us.  Showing grace to your spouse in all circumstances only makes you stronger. In a moment of pure grace Elizabeth reacts completely different to Tony than she ever has.  This was the scene that brought tears to my eyes.  Tony is on his knees emotionally broken; watch the movie, you’ll be glad you did.

Here is a link to the Kendrick Bros.  site.  If you haven’t seen the movie I strongly encourage that you do so.  I even bought the DVD.  The power of prayer is a powerful spiritual blessing and this movie will show you why as it encourages and uplifts you.
